Biography
At the age of 16, Derek Chisora ββand his family moved to the UK from the capital of Zimbabwe , Harare .
Amateur career
Derek's amateur career has developed successfully. Chisora ββspent about 20 fights, winning gold at the Four Nations tournament and winning the 119th National Championship of the Amateur Boxing Association of England in December 2005 [1] .
Professional career
Chisora ββbegan his professional career in 2007 , when on February 17 he sent a knockout in the 2nd round of a boxer with a negative record - .
Winning in the next three fights, then went against another young and invincible boxer from the UK, Sam Sexton , and defeated him by TKO in the 6th round.
Subsequent fights in 2007 Chisora ββalso won.
On May 22, 2009, Derek went into battle for the second time against the jornimen Paul Batlin . In the 5th round, Chisora ββbit his opponent in the left ear, but referee didnβt see this moment, and therefore Derek was not punished. According to the results of the battle, Chisora ββwas awarded a point victory [2] . He was later suspended for 4 months and fined 2,500 pounds. Because of this, Chisora ββmissed the opportunity to fight Danny Williams for the British title.
On October 9, 2009, Derek knocked out Zurab Noniashvili in the 3rd round. In January 2010, it became known that he would finally be able to fight Williams - Sam Sexton was forced to refuse to participate in the match due to injury. On May 15, 2010, in the battle for the title of champion among the British heavyweights, Chisora ββdefeated by technical knockout in the 2nd round of Wilms, having twice sent the opponent to the knockdown. In September 2010, Derek still went to battle with Sexton, knocking him out in the 9th round.
Possible battle with Wladimir Klitschko
On December 11, 2010, Chisora ββwas to fight with Ukrainian boxer Vladimir Klitschko , but three days before the battle Klitschko tore his abdominal muscle - the fight had to be postponed until April 30, 2011. But the postponed battle also did not take place: Wladimir Klitschko had the opportunity to conduct a unifying battle with another Briton, David Hay .
In November 2010, Chisora ββwas convicted of assaulting her friend because of messages from an unknown man found on her phone. Chisora ββwas sentenced to 12 weeks in prison with a two-year delay, a fine totaling Β£ 2,000, and 150 hours of community service. [3]
Fight with Tyson Fury
July 23, 2011 there was an interesting confrontation between two promising heavyweight boxers. Chisora ββwas a clear favorite in the fight, although both boxers had no defeats before meeting each other. Plump Derek, with a weight of almost 120 kilograms, could not oppose anything to the young and hardy Fury . Tyson quickly adapted to Chisoraβs offensive, and confidently outplayed him on points. The winner of this fight was regarded as the next contender for the fight with Wladimir Klitschko , but Fury did not rush to the champion fight.
- After losing to Fury , Chisora ββheld a warm-up fight against the Lithuanian Remigijus Zyausis on November 11, and won him on points in a 6-round battle, having the opportunity to fight the rising star Robert Helenius for the European title.
Battle with Robert Helenius
December 13, in Finland, Derek Chisora ββentered the ring against a local star, Robert Helenius . No one Chisoru considered a serious opponent after a pure defeat from Tyson Fury , but the Englishman did an incredible and the whole battle pressed Helenius . However, at the end of the battle, the judges unexpectedly gave the victory to Helenius. Many experts agreed that Chisora ββwas robbed by judges and deserved at least a draw. Despite the defeat, he took off in world rankings, because no one had shown such a spectacular confrontation with the Finns before. Chisora ββcame to the attention of Vitali Klitschko, and received an invitation to fight for the WBC champion title , despite his official defeat. Helenius claimed that in the battle with Chisora ββhe injured his hand and this did not allow him to convincingly win [4] [5] .
Championship fight with Vitali Klitschko
In February 2012, the battle of Vitali Klitschko against Derek Chisora ββtook place. All the time before the fight, Chisora ββtried to provoke Klitschko to a fight: first he slapped him on the weigh-in [6] , then before the fight he spat in the face of Vladimir Klitschko [7] [8] .
The fight turned out to be difficult enough for Vitali, despite the pre-match hat-inspiring mood of the public. Although from the first round the boxer did not leave Derek alone; but in round 8 it became noticeable that Vitaliy was very tired. Chisora, being twelve years younger, tried to pressure Vitaly, but the desire for an easy victory exhausted him too. By the end of the ninth round, Derekβs pressure had greatly diminished. At the same time, Klitschko continued to deliver single, unaccented and accurate punches, which gave a logical result - a victory on points. Despite the victory, many observers noted that by the age of 40, Vitaliy had noticeably lost speed, stamina and impact power, which, in addition to injury, caused such a stubborn fight with not the strongest of the applicants [9] .
Conflict with David Hay
At a press conference on the results of the battle, Chisora ββentered into a verbal skirmish, which turned into a fight with David Haye . The persons involved in the scandal mutually challenged each other to battle, and Chisora, among other things, threatened to βshootβ Hay. Among the victims was the coach of Hey - . He received a dissection of his head from being hit by a tripod for the camera, with which Hay tried to hit Chisora's trainer. [ten]
The next morning, while trying to fly out of the country, Chisora ββand his trainer were detained by German police at Munich airport , until the scandal was clarified the day before. Among others, Chisore was facing a charge of a serious crime of German criminal law - the threat of murder . A few hours later, both were released without charge. Hay was also planned to be detained, but he managed to leave Germany [11]
On the same day, Vitali Klitschko posted an open letter on his website addressed to the boxing public, in which he was indignant at Chisoraβs unacceptable antics before and after the fight, his intention to βpersonally settle scoresβ with Hay, and urged (essentially to boycott Chisora) boxing organizations, the media , leading boxers and their fans to prevent similar behavior in the future. [12] Chisora, in response, also posted an official statement stating that he, his team, and his family were βsincerely sorryβ and βdeeply embarrassedβ about what had happened. [13]
- scheduled an extraordinary meeting on March 14, 2012 to review Chisoraβs behavior. He faces a fine and / or suspension of a boxing license . [13]
- On February 28, the World Boxing Council announced that it would impose sanctions on Chisora: he would impose a fine, exclude from the rating, and also prohibit WBC title fights [14] .
- On March 1, following the WBC , the boxing organization WBO also removed Chisora ββfrom its ratings. [15] .
- On March 15, Chisora ββwas stripped of his boxing license [16] .
- In May, Chisora ββreinstated a boxing license through the Luxembourg Boxing Federation [17]
Duel with David Hay
July 14, 2012 At the Boleyn Ground stadium in London , two famous boxers-brawlers went full house. The battle began very spectacularly. The difference in size was impressive, but even more impressive was the difference in speed. Chisora, like a mountain, was slowly approaching Haye, approaching and received in response. Haye boxed in his standard manner: arms down, excellent lateral movement, cares. Despite the activity of Derek, the first round for Hay: 9-10. The second round began even more actively from the side of Chisora, but Haye was even more convincing. The ending of the third round came out with a very convincing attack by Derek. A round saturated with a large exchange of blows. In the fourth round, the situation again changed in favor of Haymaker. David's confident lead on the points was obvious. The fifth round began with clinching. But the numerous blows missed by Chisora ββbegan to affect. Haye had a powerful series and knocked Derek down. Chisora ββmanaged to get up, but 12 seconds before the end of the round with a strong combination, Haye sent Derek Chisora ββback to the knockout. Chisora ββwas able to rise to the score of 9, but Luis Pabon , looking into the eyes of the unrestored Derek, stopped the fight. Haye confidently defeated by knockout. After the fight, the negative atmosphere between the boxers passed, and Hay said in an interview that he would be surprised if Vitali Klitschko agreed to go out with him, given his spectacular victory over such a strong opponent. David Haye was the first boxer to send Chisora ββto the ring floor [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] . This fight was not officially recognized by most organizations of world boxing and the UK, and was not listed in the record of boxers, boxrec, but later the fight was included in the official statistics of fights [23] .
- In November 2012, the network got information about the completion of Chisoraβs sports career. Derek denied the rumors [24] .
- January 12, 2013 filed a petition for a boxing license in the UK [25] .
- On March 12, 2013, Chisore returned the British license. [26]
On April 20, 2013, in a spectacular duel, Chisora ββknocked out a little-known Argentine boxer, Hector Avila .
Fight with Malik Scott
July 20, 2013 Derek Chisora ββentered the ring with no defeat, a technical American avenue, Malik Scott . The viscous combat technique allowed Scott to outplay Chisora ββin the first two rounds. In the third and fourth rounds, Chisora ββbegan to attack more and adapted to the viscous style of the American. In the sixth round, after another Chisora ββattack, Malik Scott fell, but managed to rise to the score of "9". Despite this, referee Phil Edwards decided to end the match. Scott was not shocked, and it was clear that he was ready to continue the fight. Premature stopping of the referee raised doubts about the objectivity of the outcome of the battle [27] .
Winning European Title
The EBU European Boxing Union has appointed a fight between Derek Chisora ββ(17-4, 11 KOs) and Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26 KOs) for the European heavyweight title recently left by Kubrat Pulev . The fight was scheduled for September 21. The fighters refused the fight, citing a short time for preparation, and a replacement was found in the person of the German Edmund Gerber . Chisora ββknocked out Gerber in the 5th round of a tight fight, which took place in a forceful manner at close range, and won the European Championship title by EBU .
The next battle was scheduled for November 30, 2013. At first, the Swiss rival Arnold Gierjay was appointed Chisora's rival, but no agreement was reached [28] . Subsequently, the rival Chisora ββwas named Italian Matteo Modugno [29] , but he also refused to fight due to injury [30] . As a result, the Czech Ondrei Pala signed a contract for the fight. Chisora ββwon by TKO (the referee stopped the fight), but the decision again, as in the fight with Malik Scott, was controversial; in particular, referee Jan Christensen ignored Chisoraβs blow to the back of the opponentβs head [31] .
The Fight With Kevin Johnson
February 15, 2014 met with Kevin Johnson . Almost the entire battle took place in the usual manner for both boxers - Chisora ββpressed, and Johnson worked as the second number. For the first half of the fight, Johnson worked with little activity, and from the middle of the fight he did almost nothing, which enraged even his own corner. Chisora ββacted uniformly, but Johnson did not take advantage of the straightforwardness of the opponent, but in the 5th round Chisora ββwas able to send Johnson to the first knockdown of his career. However, Johnson quickly recovered and brought the fight to referee notes. At the end of 12 rounds, the judges delivered their verdict: 118: 110, 118: 109 and 118: 109 in favor of Derek Chisora [32] .
Revenge with Tyson Fury
November 29, 2014 the second fight between the boxers took place. Fury dominated throughout the battle. Chisora ββdistinguished himself with dirty shots in the first rounds, but could not oppose Fury, and Tyson outplayed Derek at a long distance in a one-sided battle. After round 10, Chisoraβs coach decided not to continue the fight. With this victory, Tyson Fury won the EBU European Championships, the WBO International Champion title, the vacant British Champion title and the mandatory challenger for the WBO World Champion title.
On July 24, Chisoraβs battle with the Georgian Bekoy Lobzhanidze took place. Chisora ββknocked out his opponent with the first right shot.
On November 29, 2015, Chisora ββsigned a 5-year contract with the promotion company Saurland Event [33] .
Fight with Kubrat Pulev
In the starting rounds, Chisora ββtried to work aggressively, assiduously leaning on bodypunch, but Pulev prudently extinguished the attacking excitement of the enemy very often passing jabs. By 3-4 rounds, Chisoraβs fuse noticeably went out - at least he was not so snappy climbed into the attack as at the beginning of the battle. Moreover, he spent almost the entire last minute of the 4th three-minute period with his back against the ropes, repeatedly catching his face against the jabs, and only Pulevβs unwillingness to take risks saved him from big trouble. By the middle of the battle, Chisora ββhad simplified to attempts to carry out a βcollective farmβ blow to the head, but he did not forget about working in the torso. Kubrat took his toll on technology, although he didnβt do anything beyond the limits, and sometimes very much like the mean style of boxing like Vladimir Klitschko - a jab / jab / straight, occasionally adding an uppercut. In the 6th round, Pulev caught one of the opponentβs plush faces and slightly staggered. By the 7th round, it became clear that Chisoraβs treatment of the case was bearing fruit: the Bulgarian had lost the acuity of action, became βthoughtfulβ, although he was still working on a counterpart. In the 9th three-minute period, Derek tried to arrange a βstreetβ version of the fight - he went in bulk, and even succeeded in this endeavor, several times firmly fisting his fists to the head of a defocused favorite. Subsequently, both had moments, but the fresher Pulev retained the advantage. The judges saw the following result of the match: 116-112 and 118-110 Puleva, as well as the strange 115-113 Chisore. Thus, through a separate decision of the judges, the Bulgarian became the new European champion in the EBU version (as well as an applicant for the IBF world title) in heavyweight (over 90.7 kg).
Fight with Dillian White
December 10, 2016 met with Dillian White . This fight took place on the undercard of the battle of Anthony Joshua - Eric Molina . The fight turned out to be extremely spectacular and intriguing. Almost the entire fight, boxers delighted boxing fans with bright exchanges. The start of the fight was behind White, but closer to the sixth round of Chisor, who was the initiator of most exchanges, he was able to seize the initiative. Boxers threw a large number of punches for both heavyweight. Several times, Derek seriously shocked Dillian, who literally miraculously stood on his feet. In the championship rounds, the battle also resembled a real war. In a competitive battle, White won by a separate decision of the judges with the score:, 115-114 and 115-113 White, 115-114 Chisore. This fight was recognized as the fight of the year according to the version of Sky Sports .
Agit Kabayel Fight
On November 4, 2017, in a fight for the EBU European Championship title, he met with Agit Kabayel . Sluggish and not inventive, Chisora ββwalked heavily after a well-moving rival, bumping into counterattacks and, it seems, having expended his strength by the middle of the battle. Only in the championship rounds did Derek βrememberβ that he had come to the Cote d'Azur for the title, having repeatedly been cut off with Cabayel at close range. In equal battle, Kabiel won the decision of the majority of the judges with a score of 114β114, 115β113, 115β114 and defended his European title.
