Competitions in the men's 1,500 meters at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held on August 3, 5 and 7 at the Olympic Stadium .

Taufik Makhlufi is the second Algerian who won 1,500 meters at the Olympic Games after Nureddin Morseli in 1996. The American won the Olympic medal in this discipline for the first time since 1968, when Jim Ryan was the second.

The main favorite of the final is the 2008 Olympic champion and 2011 world champion Kenyan Asbel Kiprop unexpectedly finished last. Kenyans were left without medals at this distance at the Olympic Games for the first time since 1992.
