Biography
Born in the family of a Lutheran priest. Since 1835 he took part in the patriotic movement of Slovaks. In 1840 he graduated from the Lutheran Lyceum in Bratislava , where he met with Ludovit Stur .
After studying, he became a priest in Brezova pod Bradlom . In 1842 - 1877 he published the Nitra almanac. In 1843, together with Michal Gojey and Ludovit Stur in Glbok, they codified a new version of the literary Slovak language . In 1848 - 1849 he actively participated in the revolution, was repressed. In 1861 he was one of the founders of the Slovak Mother .
Josef Miloslav Gurban - publisher of the first book in the štrov version of the Slovak literary language . Together with Ludovit Stur and Michal Miloslav, Gojey codified the Slovak literary language , which was based on the Middle Slovak dialect . It is this language that has become the basis of the modern literary Slovak language .
His son was Svetozar Gurban-Vayansky - a Slovak writer, poet, prose writer and publicist [2] .
