Biography
Yuri Belenogov was born on June 10, 1923 in the village of Selishche (now within Kostroma ) in a working class family.
After graduating from a junior high school and a factory apprenticeship school, he worked with his father at the Worker Metalworker factory. At the beginning of World War II he worked near Yaroslavl . In 1942 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to study at the Pushkin Tank School, evacuated to Rybinsk [1] .
Since June 1943 - on the fronts of World War II, he was the tank commander of the 119th tank regiment of the 10th Guards Army of the Western Front . He distinguished himself during the battles in the Kaluga and Smolensk region [1] .
On August 8, 1943, in the battle for the village of Veselukha in the Spas-Demensky district of the Kaluga Region, the Belenogov tank destroyed 3 bunkers , 2 mortars , 4 machine guns , an anti-tank gun and near an enemy infantry platoon. On August 16, 1943, during the battle for the village of Vava , the arm of the tank broke. Despite the massive German fire, Belenogov personally repaired his tank, after which, taking a damaged neighboring tank in tow, evacuated it to the rear. During the battles near Yelnya, the Belenogov tank destroyed a mortar, 2 machine guns, 4 cars. On August 30, 1943, the Belenogov tank was the first in its unit to break into Yelnya [1] .
On September 2, 1943, during the battle near the village of Bolshaya Nezhoda, Yelninsky District, Smolensk Region, the Belenogov tank was hit. Having left it, the crew took the battle, destroying 27 enemy soldiers and officers (16 of them destroyed the Belenogs). The entire tank crew died in battle. Left alone, Belenogov blew himself up and the German soldiers surrounding him with a grenade. He was buried at the military cemetery in the city of Yelnya.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, for the “exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time”, junior lieutenant Yuri Belenogov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .

- A street in Kostroma was named in honor of Belenogov [1] .
