Oranhel José Rodriguez Farias was born on January 25, 1933 in Los Tekes, Miranda , into a military family. Oranhel is the third of five children in the family. His childhood and youth passed in El Tokuyo (Lara state), where the future actor was brought up in the family of his father’s sister and her husband, the famous businessman El Peduio Pedro Pérez Leal. Oranhel’s mother died when he was very young.
During his studies, he played and sang in the school theater. He did not finish his studies at the Lyceum because of the terrible earthquake that almost destroyed El Tokuyo on August 6, 1950.
In 1950, at the insistence of his father, he entered the Institute of Officers of the National Guard in Caracas .
In 1954 , having abandoned this elite institute, he decided to become an actor and, having passed tests on the RCTV channel, got a role in the first Venezuelan telenovela “Camay”. A great help to him then was rendered by the already popular at that time actor Rafael Briceño.
From 1955 to 1957 he studied at the School of Acting Juan Suho, and in 1957 he made his debut as a theater actor.
In the same 1957 he received a supporting role in the drama directed by Roman Chalbo “Cain Adolescente”.

As a director, he worked mainly in the theater, and in 1975 he directed the telenovela “Girl named Milagros” for Venevison, which became one of the most popular Venezuelan telenovelas of the 70s.
He became famous as a performer of negative roles in telenovelas, for example , in the telenovela Esmeralda in 1971 he played the crazy doctor Marcos Malaver, whose role brought Dolphin popularity no less than that of the main actor - Jose Bardina.
From 1989 to 1996, on the Venevision channel, he played in 5 telenovelas and several television films, and gained the most popularity after playing the role of the villain don Fernando Maldonado in the telenovela “ Revenge ”.
In September 1996, Dolphin left the profession due to illness.
In 1998 he was awarded the highest award awarded to actors - the Order of Francisco Fajardo I degree.
In the last years of his life, the actor had serious health problems due to heart surgery. In 1999 he moved to a Catholic shelter for the elderly Barkisimeto. There, in Barquisimeto, he worked in small programs on the radio.
