Military Service
At the beginning of World War II, he was called up by the Moscow GVK to the ranks of the Forces of the Special Group under the NKVD of the USSR , which in October 1941 were reorganized into the Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade for Special Purpose (OMSBON) of the NKVD of the USSR , which was part of the Fourth (Partisan) Directorate of the NKVD under the leadership of the State Security Commissioner P A. Sudoplatova . The staff of the brigade was staffed by employees of the NKVD and the NKGB , as well as volunteer athletes of the State Central Order of Lenin Institute of Physical Culture , pupils of all voluntary sports societies of the capital , mobilized by Komsomol members and foreign communists.
In the winter of 1941/1942, the mobile detachments of the OMSBON carried out many daring raids and raids behind the Germans. The junior lieutenant Pylnov, who was an assistant to the platoon commander of the 7th detachment, Captain N. A. Vasin in the 3rd battalion of the 1st motorized rifle regiment of the OMSBON NKVD of the USSR, also participated in such operations.
Doom
On January 18, 1942, four OMSBON detachments, 80 each, arrived at the location of the 328th Infantry Division (1st formation) of the 10th Army of the Western Front , which began bloody battles to destroy the 216th Infantry units from the beginning of January 1942 Wehrmacht divisions surrounded in the district center of Sukhinichi, Kaluga Region . One of these detachments of the OMSBON was commanded by Captain N. A. Vasin. On this day, January 18, 1942, Grigory Pylnov wrote the last letter to his family.
Initially, the task of all four detachments was to cross the front line in the vicinity of the village of Maklaki in the Duminichi district , followed by further diversionary work in the rear of the German units in the Zhizdrinsky and Lyudinovsky districts. The further goal of the detachments was to reach the forests of the Bryansk region for communication with the partisans operating there.
As Marshal of the Soviet Union described in his book “In the Moscow Battle: Notes of the Commander” (Chapter V. Enemy Counterattack), and at that moment Lieutenant General , Commander of the 10th Army of the Western Front, Golikov over the next few days near Sukhinichiami it became very complicated - the Germans, with the help of several divisions, including armored, went to the release of their encircled garrison. There were no fresh reserves at hand, and the 10th Army command had to use the KGB athletes for other purposes. The detachment under the command of Captain N. A. Vasin, in which Pylnov served, was urgently sent to defend the village of Popkovo, Sukhinichi district , which stood in the way of the enemy’s tanks. Two units of the OMSBON under the command of Captain N. S. Gorbachev and Senior Lieutenant K. Z. Laznyuk were also sent to no less critical defense areas. The fourth detachment under the command of senior lieutenant M.K. Bazhenov had previously crossed the front line and operated behind the Germans.
01/23/42, near the village of Popkovo, two detachments under the command of junior lieutenant G. Pylnov were the first to fall under the ramming attack of the 18th Wehrmacht tank division . KGB athletes stood to death. No one backed down. The squad leader, Captain Vasin, died. Almost no one was left alive. The death of the brave fell and the second lieutenant Pylnov. Locals recalled that in the spring, when the snow fell, they saw a lot of dead in white on the black earth (Omsbonists were in white camouflage uniforms).
After the events described above, in the period of February 10-14, 1942 , the remnants of the OMSBON detachments were recalled to Moscow . Some of the fighters from their former squads subsequently joined the new detachments, sent to the rear of the enemy.
