The International Maxibasketball Federation ( Spanish: Federación Internacional de Maxibásquetbol asociación , abbr. FIMBA , in the Russian transliteration FIMBA ) is an international organization that unites lovers of maxibasketball in the world aged 30 and over. The Federation is headquartered in Buenos Aires , Argentina . Currently, FIMBA unites national federations of more than 40 countries on all continents.

History

The organization was formed on August 21, 1992 in Buenos Aires , Argentina . By that time, the maxibasketball movement was growing and spreading around the world, there was a need to create an international body that organizes veteran basketball competitions. The Argentinean Eduardo Rodriguez Lamas, one of the founders of maxibasketball, became the first secretary of FIMBA.

At the first World Basketball Championship among veterans , held in Buenos Aires , Argentina , 32 teams from 8 countries took part: Uruguay , USA , Guatemala , Brazil , Russia , Estonia , Finland and Argentina . Medals were played in the following age categories: men 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 60+ and women 35+, 40+.

In 1999, the FIMBA Regional Secretariats were created. Europe also received its secretary, and in 2000 Latvia hosted the 1st European Championship , in which more than 90 teams took part.

After the death of the first FIMBA secretary in 2003 , starting from 2005 at the world championships , the Eduardo Awards began to be awarded to the best players, coaches, and teams in 10 nominations.

In March 2005, at the FIBA Congress in San Jose , FIMBA was recognized as successful.

FIMBA Competition

Since 1991, the Veterans World Basketball Championship has been held, which takes place every two years. Since 2000, under the auspices of FIMBA , the European Championship and the Pan-American Championship have been held.

On September 29, 2007, FIMBA organized and hosted the first MAXI DAY . On this day, more than 10,000 basketball veterans around the world played their favorite game. Since then, MAXI DAY has been held annually on the last Sunday of September.

FIMBA Competition Guidelines

Competitions are held in the following age categories:

  • for men and women - 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+
  • for men - 65+, 70+, 75+

The minimum number of countries for a medal in a category must be three.

Each country can enter more than one team in a category, but at the same time, teams from one country cannot be in the final match.

The World Cup is held in 10 days, of which 3 days of rest is provided to each team throughout the event. No team can play two matches in a row in less than 20 hours, all teams play at least four and no more than seven games in the championship. Men from 60+ and women from 50+ cannot play more than 5 games. [one]
