Jesse K. Timmendekas ( born Jesse Timmendequas ; born April 15, 1961 ) has two criminal convictions for sexual assault against girls. In 1979, he was convicted of attempted sexual assault with aggravating circumstances against a five-year-old girl in the city of Piskatuey State of New Jersey , but received a suspended sentence and, after refusing to undergo psychological counseling, was sent for treatment at the Middlesex Adult Correctional Center. In 1981, Timmendekas was found guilty of assaulting a seven-year-old girl and imprisoned for six years at the Adult Diagnostic & Treatment Center; ADTC in Avenel state of new jersey. [3]

It is known that during his stay in ADTC Timmendekas participated little in the proposed treatment program. One of the doctors treating him rated Timmendekas as a “ whiner, ” who slept most of the time. Another doctor stated that she was confident that Timmendekas would ultimately commit another sex crime, although she did not believe that he would commit the murder. [3]

Murder and Judgment

On July 29, 1994, Timmendekas lured Megan to his house, promising to show a puppy. There he raped Megan, and then strangled her with a belt and wrapped two bags around her head. Then he transferred her body to a truck, where he abused her again. After this, Timmendekas placed Megan's body in a wooden chest and left it in the territory of the Mercer County Park ( Eng. Mercer County Park ) [4] [5] .

The next day, he confessed to the investigators the murder of the girl and indicated the whereabouts of the body [6] . The evidence was blood stains, hair and hairs of clothing, as well as a trace of Megan's bite left on Timmendekas’s hand

The court sentenced Timmendekas to death on the following counts: kidnapping , four episodes of sex crime in aggravated circumstances, as well as two episodes of aggravated murder. The sentence was upheld by the New Jersey Supreme Court after appeal in 2001. [7] Timmendekas was held on death row until December 17, 2007 , when the death penalty was abolished in New Jersey and the death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without parole. [8] [9]

Megan Law

One month after the assassination by the General Assembly of New Jersey Bills introduced by MP Paul Kramer were adopted who entered the obligatory inclusion of persons who committed sexual violence in the state database, and the society received the right to be aware of the facts of neighborhood with these persons and of the imprisonment of repeat offenders . Kramer himself expressed the view that “Meghan Kanka would be alive today” if the bills he proposed were passed earlier. [ten]

Foundation

Megan's parents created The Megan Nicole Kanka Foundation to prevent sexual crimes against children.
