Internet Experiment Notes (IENs) is a series of technical notes created during the early stages of TCP / IP and the Internet .
Shortly before DARPA launched the Internet program in early 1977 in order to implement all the concepts laid down by Bob Kahn and Wint Cerf , the members of this project decided that they needed to be documented. Since the founding of the RFCs , the participants in the ARPANET and NWG project , which defined the protocols for the networks, have been based on the RFCs. The members of the Internet project decided to create their personal separate documentation, which would be similar to the RFC.
Experimental Internet Notes (IEN) were born there. John Postel became the editor of the new series in addition to his primary concern for long-term RFC standards. Between May 1997 and September 1982, 204 IEN articles were published. But because of the plan to migrate ARPANET from NCP to TCP / IP protocol, IEN was never completed and all subsequent documentation was included in the RFC.
In 2005, 132 of the 204 published IENs became available online.
