Biography
From 1989 to 2010 he was the burgomaster of the city of Braunau am Inn . In 1989, at the beginning of his work as burgomaster, he placed a memorial stone in front of the house where Adolf Hitler was born. The inscription on the stone reads: “For freedom, peace and democracy. Let’s not suppose fascism again, millions of dead are asking us about it. ”
With its help, the unification of history ( German: Verein für Zeitgeschichte ) has been organizing the annual scientific conference on history in Braunau am Inn since 1992. In 2006, at the invitation of Skib, the sculptor Gunter Damnig laid four stumbling blocks as a victim of National Socialism in Braunau am Inn. In 2009, at the initiative of Skib, the interdistrict project “The Braunau am Inn Peace District” began work.
