Biography
Vasily Bezborodov was born on March 9, 1917 in the village of Tovarkovo, Bogoroditsky district, Tula region, into a family of a miner and a peasant woman. In 1938 he graduated from the mining technical school in Skopin , after which he worked at the mine. In the same year he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1941 he graduated from the Moscow Military-Political School. In the same year he joined the CPSU (b) [1] .
Since November 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By April 1945, Major Vasily Bezborodov commanded a motorized battalion of machine gunners of the 64th Guards Tank Brigade of the 1st Guards Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished himself during the Berlin operation . On April 28, 1945, fighters of the Bezborodov battalion cleared four quarters in the center of Berlin , which ensured the successful advancement of the brigade’s tanks [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 31, 1945, Major Vasily Bezborodov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal [1] .
After the war he continued his service in the Soviet Army . In 1976, the rank of colonel retired. He lived and worked in Moscow [1] . In 1976–2001 he was a leading specialist in the Main Armored Directorate of the Ministry of Defense . He died on August 28, 2003 [2] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Red Banner and World War 1 degree, three orders of the Red Star , the order "For Service to the Homeland in the USSR Armed Forces" , as well as a number of medals [1] . In 2005, the name of Hero of the Soviet Union Bezborodov was assigned to Cuban secondary school No. 2 [2] .
