Biography
He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux , and later continued his artistic education at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts (Académie des beaux-arts).
Student Atelier F. Cormon .
Since 1914 he took part in the exhibitions of the Paris Salon .
In 1929, at the invitation of the Sultan, he went to Algeria . He worked there on his order, first on the murals of the villa Abd-El-Tif, and later on decorative compositions for the celebration hall in the Government Palace. During the Algerian period, he performed numerous landscapes, brilliantly displaying the effects of the open air, as well as sketches for wallpaper and tapestries. He worked in Oran , Touggourt , Figig ( Morocco ) and others.
The painter’s creativity was highly appreciated by the Sultan of Morocco, Mohammed V , who patronized Baskula, giving him a secluded house next to his personal guard, awarded the artist with many awards and made him a member of several important state commissions (in particular, the production of Moroccan national tapestries ). In 1931 he was awarded the Legion of Honor .
In 1962, the artist returned to Paris . He worked mainly in the genre of monumental painting and landscape. He painted a still life.
The last years of his life he lived in Montpellier .
