Biography
Born in 1916 in the village of Kavkazskaya (according to other sources - Ilyinskaya ) in the Krasnodar Territory . Russian. He worked as a locksmith , a cauldron of a sugar factory. Sister - Lyubov Makarenko (Brazhnikova).
Since 1936 in the ranks of the Red Army . Member of World War II since March 1942. He fought on the Southwest, Kalinin and Voronezh fronts. December 10, 1942 was seriously injured. In winter battles, he knocked out and destroyed 7 enemy tanks [1] .
The commander of a platoon of medium tanks of the 49th battalion of the 49th tank brigade, Lieutenant G.I. Brazhnikov, distinguished himself during the Battle of Kursk in the Oboyan direction. On July 7, he destroyed one PzKpfw III and one PzKpfw IV in battle. On July 10, 1943, in the area of 244 altitude, within three minutes, three Tiger tanks and two medium tanks were set on fire, consuming only 8 shells. During the battle, another Tiger managed to set Brazhnikov's T-34 on fire, but the crew remained intact. Thus, the battle score of Brazhnikov reached 14 destroyed and destroyed enemy tanks [2] .
For this episode, was presented by the battalion commander Captain Belov to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union, however, according to the conclusion of the military council of the 1st Panzer Army, Katukov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner (August 22, 1943) [3] [4] . During May 1944, in defensive battles for the city of Kolomyia on the site of the 17th Guards Rifle Corps of the Guard, Senior Lieutenant G.I. Brazhnikov, commanding the tank company of the 64th Guards Tank Brigade , held the defenses by tank ambushes and repelled numerous enemy attacks. At the same time, 3 bunkers , six mortars and up to 50 enemy soldiers and officers were destroyed. For this episode he was awarded the Order of the Red Star (June 4, 1944) [7] [8] .
From April 25 to 28, in a street battle in Berlin, a tank company of the 3rd tank battalion of the 64th Guards Tank Brigade cleared 32 blocks, destroying two medium tanks, one Ferdinand assault gun, one heavy mortar, two guns, more than 150 soldiers and enemy officers, and also captured 55 people, including one colonel. At the same time, the commander of the tank company of the guard, senior lieutenant G.I. Brazhnikov personally wrote down one Ferdinand assault gun and one medium tank on his battle account. For this episode, the brigade command introduced G.I. Brazhnikov to the Order of Lenin , however, by the decision of the commander of the 1st Guards Tank Army, Colonel General of the Tank Troops Katukov was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky (May 9, 1945) [9] [10] .

After the war he was demobilized, returned home to the village of Kavkazskaya. He returned to his humble profession as a locksmith, worked at a mechanical plant in the city of Kropotkin [11] .
