Geographical position
The area is located between Uudenmaankatu and Kaskenkatu streets and occupies the central historical part of Turku.
Attractions
A large number of architectural monuments of regional and national importance are concentrated in the district, including Old Square , the Luostarinmäki handicraft museum , the archaeological museum and the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova exhibition complex, as well as the navigation museum located in the old Vartiovuori observatory .
Every year in the summer, the Old Town Square hosts a traditional medieval fair , attracting both craftsmen and thousands of visitors from different countries.
The city leisure park located on Vartiovuori hill , where the summer children's theater is also located, is very popular among the townspeople.
On the southeastern side of Vartiovuori hill on Vartiovuorenkatu street, 2 is the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Turku and the Russian Orthodox church chapel in honor of the Assumption of the Mother of God , which is part of the structure of the patriarchal parishes in Finland .
Population
The population of the district in 2007 was 2,878 people. Children under 15 years old accounted for 5.89%, and over 65 years old - 24.12%. 82.63% spoke Finnish as a mother tongue, 15.66% spoke Swedish, and 1.71% of the population spoke other languages.
