Biography

Born February 23, 1920 in the village of Maleevo, Kaluga province [1] in a peasant family. He graduated from 7 classes and the school of factory apprenticeship.

Since 1937 in the ranks of the Red Army. In 1938 he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation Pilot School. He served in the Transbaikal Military District.

Member of the battles on the Khalkhin Gol River in 1939. As part of the 22nd IAP, he completed 96 sorties, conducted 25 air battles, shot down 3 Japanese aircraft personally and 6 in the group. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.

The participant of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 as part of the 25th IAP did not have victories.

Since 1940, he was an instructor at the Kachinsky Military Aviation School .

Member of World War II from the first day. He fought as part of the 126th Fighter Aviation Regiment (6th Fighter Aviation Corps, the country's Air Defense Forces). By February 1943, it completed 286 sorties, conducted about 80 air battles, shot down 7 aircraft in person and 13 in the group.

After the war, he continued to serve in the USSR Air Force. Since 1975, Colonel A.I. Smirnov is in stock. He lived in Moscow. He died on July 31, 2009. He was buried in Moscow at the Troekurovsky cemetery .
