Biography
Grigory Bakhtadze was born on July 7, 1916 in the town of Khoni (in Soviet times - Tsulukidze in Georgia ) in a peasant family. After graduating from the mechanization college in Kutaisi, he worked as a mechanic at a machine-tractor station. In 1939 he entered the Pedagogical Institute. In 1941 he joined the VKP (b) . In 1942 he was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, in the same year he graduated from the military infantry school. Since 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By March 1944, Lieutenant Grigory Bakhtadze commanded a company of the 1038th Infantry Regiment of the 295th Infantry Division of the 28th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . Distinguished during the crossing of the Dnieper in the Kherson region [1] .
On March 2, 1944, a company under the command of Bakhtadze successfully crossed the river in the Kherson region, capturing and subsequently expanding the bridgehead , which ensured a successful crossing over the entire battalion [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 3, 1944, Lieutenant Bakhtadze was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1945, Bakhtadze was dismissed. He lived and worked in Tbilisi . He died in 1957 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
