He was one of the founders of the Neues Pester Journal. Later he began to write in the Austrian periodical. Known for his translations of poems by the Hungarian poet Sandor Petofi into German.
Performer Schnitzer belongs to several libretto to operettas and comic operas. Among them is the libretto of the world famous operetta “ Gypsy Baron ” in three acts by the Austrian composer Johann Strauss (son) , written by him in 1885 . Strauss and Schnitzer worked together to create this work. The literary basis of the libretto was the novel “Saffy” by the famous Hungarian writer Mora Yokai .
