Biography
Tanstall was born in Edinburgh and was soon adopted. “KT” is the abbreviation of the initials in the full name - Kate Tunstall. Her father is a physicist, and her mother is a school teacher. Kate also has an older brother, Joe, and a younger brother named Daniel.
Career
Katie's adoptive parents did not approve of her passion for music, but from the graduation class she got to the preparatory course of the Institute in Connecticut and was here among the hippies, with a guitar. Returning to Scotland (a fan of Joni Mitchell and PJ Harvey ), she began performing in coffee houses and bars. Kevin Anderson, the musician and producer who noticed the debutant, invited her to his Skuobhie Dubh Orchestra , a hippy folk band based in a small Scottish area. Some time later, the singer went to Edinburgh , where she experimented with different styles (as part of Red Light Stilus , Tamoko , Elias Drew ), and in 2001 she moved to London . Three years later, she received a contract with Relentless Records , where her debut album Eye To The Telescope , recorded by producer Steve Osborne, was released . Quite by accident, Katie appeared on the stage of the television program Jules Holland and made a splash with the song “The Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”. The debut album began to rise on the charts and over the next three years sold 4 million copies. Tunstall received two prestigious nominations ( Grammys for Best Female Vocal and Mercury Music Prize for Best Album of the Year) and two awards: BRITs Award (British Singer of the Year) and Ivor Novello (Suddenly I See, song of the year) .
In September 2007 , Katie Tunstall's third album, Drastic Fantastic , was released, receiving rave reviews in major music publications.
In the same year, Kate took part in the recording of the song Under the Moonlight for the album The Boy with No Name by the eminent Scottish band Travis .
Name
When Ken Bruce asked KT about her nickname in an interview with BBC Radio 2 before the BRIT Awards 2006, she said that it was just an abbreviation from the initials of her real name Kate Tanstall. As a student, studying at the University of London Royal Holloway , she played in a student bar on an acoustic guitar under the name "Katie".
In an interview with XM Satellite Radio in 2006, she admitted that this PJ Harvey was an example for her to shorten the name to an abbreviation.
Personal life
From 2008 to 2013, CT was married to drummer Luke Ballen (b.1973).
