Zhukov, Mikhail Fedorovich

Mikhail Fedorovich Zhukov ( August 24 [ September 6 ] 1917 , station Verkhovye , Oryol Province - December 4, 1998, Novosibirsk) - Russian Soviet scientist, an expert in the field of aerodynamics and gas-discharge plasma. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Winner of the USSR State Prize.

Biography

Born in the family of a railway worker.

Education

In 1931 he graduated from the 7 classes and entered the Federal Law School at the plant "Ball Bearing" (Moscow). Acquired specialty turner, locksmith and grinder. It was recommended at the Workers' Faculty , which he graduated in 1935.

Choosing a university to continue his studies, Mikhail wrote a letter to K. E. Tsiolkovsky , whose books he had read, asking for help in this choice. In the reply letter, an unequivocal opinion was expressed - it is necessary to enter the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University.

  • 1941 - graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, qualified as a mechanic;
  • from 1946 to 1949 - he studied at the postgraduate MAI ;

Academic degree

  • 1950 - defended his thesis. Led work on supersonic and transonic aerodynamics;
  • 1962 - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Work

  • from 1941 to 1946 - worked in TsAGI them. N. E. Zhukovsky , in laboratory number 1;
  • from 1941 to 1942 - together with TsAGI in evacuation in Novosibirsk . In the position of senior engineer, he participated in the development of elements of turbojet engines for airplanes (headed by G. N. Abramovich ).
  • since 1946 - at CIAM ,
  • since 1952 - in the CIAM gas-dynamic laboratory created by L.I. Sedov , senior researcher, department head;
  • 1959 - worked at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM) of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences and moved to the Akademgorodok Novosibirsk;
  • From 1959 to 1970 - Deputy Director of ITAM for Research, at the same time oversaw the construction of the Institute’s buildings;
  • from 1959 to 1970 - Head. laboratory of electric arc discharges;
  • From 1965 to 1966 - Acting Director of ITAM.
  • 1968 - elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR;
  • 1992 - elected a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences [1] ;
  • 1995 - elected as a full member of the International Energy Academy;
  • 1970 - together with the department of plasdynamics he moved to the Institute of Thermophysics. S. S. Kutateladze Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, to the post of deputy director;
  • from 1970 to 1978 - Head of the Low-Temperature Plasma Department;
  • 1988 - Advisor to the Directorate at the Institute of Thermal Physics. S. S. Kutateladze of the USSR Academy of Sciences;
  • From 1975 to 1990 - Member of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences ;
  • From 1975 to 1980 - Chief Scientific Secretary of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences;
  • from 1996 - worked at ITAM, where the plasma dynamics department was transferred;
  • From 1960 to 1965 - he taught at Novosibirsk State University , Professor of the Department of Applied Gas Dynamics;
  • From 1976 to 1982 - Professor of the Novosibirsk Electrotechnical Institute.
  • For 15 years, he was the editor-in-chief of the journal Izvestia SB AS USSR.

Research Interests

  • 1956 - was engaged in research of gas-discharge plasma and plasma torches ;

Fundamental works in the field of gas dynamics and low-temperature plasma. The author and co-author of more than 230 articles and 12 collective monographs, has many copyright certificates. Under his leadership, defended 14 doctoral and more than 40 PhD theses.

Awards

  • 1982 - State Prize winner of the USSR;
  • 1985 - Laureate of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1985);
  • 1975 - awarded the Order of the October Revolution;
  • 1967 and 1981 - awarded two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor
  • 1986 - Order of Friendship of Peoples,
  • 1998 - Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree [2] .

Death

He died on December 4, 1998, and was buried at the Southern (Cherbuzinsky) cemetery in Novosibirsk.

Memory

 

A memorial plaque to MF Zhukov was installed on the facade of the ITAM.

Established a prize to them. MF Zhukov for young scientists of the SB RAS.
