Story
According to legend, a little orphan girl Wisp was transferred by an unknown force to the Colorless World: a dark and gloomy planet inhabited by monsters, immersed in depression. She was ordered to find the "Sphere of Light" to change this world. As the journey described in "The Beginning of Rainbowland," Visp meets his friends - the Twinka sprite, and the magnificent white horse Starlite (which translates as "Starlight"). Starlight is able to talk and plan actions. Also, then she meets 7 Color Kids, responsible for 7 colors of the rainbow in this world, imprisoned by an evil dark lord in different traps, together they free each other. Having miraculously received her main attribute of power - the rainbow belt - Visp enters into a battle with the dark lord, from which she is destined to come out already transformed into a Rainbow Brite. The series stood out from the typical Western animation by the spiritual strength of the heroine and became instantly popular. Mass production of toy products was licensed under the Hallmark license: dolls, notebooks, erasers, key rings, and much more.

Feature Film
The full-length film Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer (Queen of the Rainbow and the Star Thief) was released in 1985, withstood several reprints on VHS tapes. several new characters appeared in the film, and Starlight's tail and mane changed the alternation of rainbow colors to the opposite than in the animated series.
Theosophical analogies
The often-held claim that the name Brite has some religious background is not true. Hallmark chose it as an abbreviation of the word Bright in order to patent the trade name, much like the Blu-ray laser (but not Blue Ray) was called a blue laser recording system for large-capacity optical discs. In the original, in English, the name is always pronounced “Bright” but not “Brit”. (See also spelling in “simplified English”.)
