About the album
In compiling the track list, Nick Cave asked each member of the group to choose their favorite songs from ten albums released at that time, as a result of which a discussion will be held and the final track list will be compiled. This scrupulous approach tired the guitarist Mick Harvey and, as a result, the list of The Best of was compiled by the group with his minimal participation.

- Note : Songs 2, 4, 10, 11 and 14 were taken from singles of the same name and differ from the album versions, although this is not indicated in the booklet to the collection.
Special Edition
The collection was also released as a special edition, where as a bonus the live album Live at the Royal Albert Hall was recorded, recorded on May 19 and 20, 1997. In 2008, this bonus disc was released as a regular album. Four additional songs appeared on the new edition and The Weeping Song disappeared. This song is built as a dialogue between son and father, where Cave sings for his son and Blixa Bargeld for the father. But the latter left the group in 2003, and therefore the song was removed.
