Biography
Born on the island of Djerba in Tunis , Menachem Mazuz was the fourth of nine children in the family of Rabbi of one of the island’s Jewish communities. As a child, Menachem repatriated to Israel with his family and settled in Netivot [1] .
Mazuz served compulsory military service in the Israel Defense Forces in armored forces, and then studied law at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and received a law degree in 1980 . Mazuz specialized in the study of state and administrative law. After graduation, he worked in the Ministry of Justice for several years, including processing petitions to the Supreme Court. At the same time, he taught public and administrative law at the Hebrew University . From 1991 to 1995, he worked as one of the advisers to coordinate the legal aspects of the negotiations between Israel and Jordan and the Palestinian Authority [2] . In 1995, he was appointed deputy legal adviser to the government, and worked in this position for almost ten years.
In January 2004, Mazuz was appointed legal adviser to the government. At the time of his appointment, he was known as having made a career as a public servant with political and criminal law experience. However, the circumstances of his appointment received a significant interest in society, since Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his sons were under investigation by the legal adviser for violations during the funding of the 1999 Likud election campaign.
Family
Menachem Mazuz is married to Elinoar Mazuz, they have two daughters. The Mazuz family lives in a suburb of Jerusalem. [2]
