Creation History
The Martian Hunter appeared in Detective Comics # 225 in 1955, so some historians consider the Martian Hunter the first character in the Silver Age of comics [1] . However, comic book historian Craig Shatt, author of the Ask Mister Silver Age column ( Ask Mr. Silver Age ) in Comics Buyer's Guide, disagrees, noting that Martian Hunter first appeared as a detective using his supernormal abilities, to solve crimes [2] . Ultimately, he became a member of the Justice League, although he was originally the usual “bizarre detective,” in the spirit of other characters of the time: “television detectives, supernatural detectives, Indian detectives, and others.” According to Shatt, the Martian Hunter became a superhero in Detective Comics # 273 in November 1959, when the personality became hidden and the costume and appearance changed [2] .
Fictional Biography
The real name of the Martian Hunter is J'onn J'onzz. J'onn is the last Martian to accidentally find himself on Earth, where, thanks to his abilities, he took the form of a human-like green-skinned creature wearing a long blue cloak. He also often assumed a completely human appearance, disguising himself as detective John Jones and other random personalities. The Martian Hunter is a member of the Justice League .
The New 52
According to Flashpoint events, Martian Hunter becomes a member of the secret organization Stormwatch . [3] Despite this alliance with the militarist group where he goes, “when he needs to be a warrior ” and not a hero, it is often mentioned that “he is from the Justice League”. [4] The sixth issue of Stormwatch shows feedback saying “to the Justice League”, meaning that J'onn is a public superhero; J'onn himself says that he never tried to join the League as a member of Stormwatch - because then he would have to keep secrets and probably betray them. (Which turned out to be a lie, or at least half-truth - at some point he almost joined the Justice League, which resulted in a clash between him and the team) He is close to the Stormwatch members, considering Harry Tanner a friend and alarmed when he was betrayed; he said that he “began to enjoy” the Projectionist's “big deal” company. [five]
During his first appearance at Stormwatch, he helps Jack Hawksmoor and the Projectionist recruit Apollo, whom J'onn forces to fight (avoiding the blows) after he attacked the agents. He becomes furious and stops fighting when Apollo suggests that J'onn has come to kill him, and makes an attempt to negotiate with Apollo. However, Midnight, who arrived in time, claims that the battle instead of talking is an act of a superhero, which J'onn is not by his own statement. [6] He later meets a Stormwatch member managing the Shadow Cabinet and tells him that he knows who the Shadow Lord is. Before J'onn says, the Shadow Lord explains that “he wants people to consider him the last Martian: a noble, sad orphan. But ... "" [7]
Enemies
- Belle Juz is a Martian who survived the death of Mars and uses her female tricks and cunning mind to manipulate others. When her homeworld became uninhabited, Belle Juice flew to the Vonn planet with her dear green Martians. Belle betrayed her people to the Titens, the invaders who had expelled all the rest of the Vonn. The Titans hired cyborgs to enslave the Martians, and then used their vitality. Only Belle Juze from her entire group retained freedom.
- B'enn B'ernz is a criminal Martian hiding on Earth in 2062 and returning to the present to wreak havoc and destruction.

- Darkside is an evil "god" alien who invaded Mars long before J'onn arrived on Earth. He is responsible for driving Malefic crazy.
- Despero is an opponent of the Justice League , who killed the gypsy parents, the protégé J'onn, and his partner Steel. J'onne defeated Despero publicly several times. The result was a mutual hatred of both to each other.
- Kei'an is one of the few surviving green Martians. White Martians brainwashed him to attack J'onna.
- The Mongul is a tyrant stranger trying to force J'onn to give him the key to the super-weapon.
Strengths and Abilities
Initially, the Martian Hunter had the ability to become invisible and take the form of any living creature, and also owned telepathy. Over time, these abilities were supplemented by the ability to fly, X-ray vision, superhuman strength, speed and endurance. However, the Martian Hunter is very sensitive to fire. Also, the Martian owns telekinesis. It flies by controlling ambient air (telekinetic effect). He can also change the density of his body, which allows him to become intangible.
J'onn J'onz also demonstrated the ability to generate and control heat or energy rays, waves and explosions, as well as absorb additional mass from the earth to greatly increase its size.
Besides superhuman powers, J'onn is a very capable detective. As Batman mentioned in his file, "in many ways, the Martian Hunter is like a mixture of Superman and Batman." [eight] [ clarify ]

Television
- In the 12th episode of Season 6 of The Secret of Smallville, at the beginning of the episode, a black man claims to be a Martian. Later, the orderlies, mocking, bring a lighter to him, who, in turn, fearfully moves away. This is a reference to the fact that the Martian Hunter is very sensitive to fire. Later, he appears in the 6-10 seasons of this series, as one of the characters and is portrayed as an old friend of Jor-El, who came to Earth to help Kal-El when he needs her.
- The Martian Hunter is one of the main characters in the Supergirl series . According to the plot, J'onn J'onzz has long been hiding on Earth in the jungle of Peru . He was tracked down by Hank Hanshaw, director of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), obsessed with hunting and destroying aliens, seeing them as only a threat. Jeremiah Danvers, an expert scientist on Kryptonians , as well as the father of Alexandra Danvers (and the adoptive father of Supergirl), saved the Martian at the cost of his life, taking his word from him that he would protect Alex from adversity. J'onn, taking on the appearance of Hanshaw, reorganized DEO, making alien hunters a military infrastructure that protects people from the inhabitants of the alien prison Fort Ross and the like, and also became the unofficial assistant Supergirl. J'onn only revealed his secret to Alex, taking the word from her that Supergirl would not know anything. In episode 9 of season 1, Supergirl found out about this with her super hearing, at the end of the series he appeared as Cat Grant in the guise of Supergirl, and at that moment Kara came as a completely different person. In the 17th episode, the Hunter was captured, as they revealed his appearance, but at the end of the season D'Jonn was amnestied and reinstated.
Unlike the original comics, in this series, D'Johnn in his true appearance is one head taller than the average person and has bony protrusions on his face, which makes him look less humanoid.
