Biography

Early years

He was born on August 13, 1923 in the village of Kerbutovka, now Borznyansky district, Chernihiv region (Ukraine) in a peasant family. Russian. Together with his family he moved to the city of Khasavyurt (now the Republic of Dagestan). There he graduated from junior high school number 4, then the flying club in the city of Makhachkala.

In the Red Army

In 1942 he graduated from the Krasnodar Military Aviation School of Pilots, evacuated to the city of Pugachev, Saratov Region. Got a military fighter pilot specialty. On the 4th Ukrainian Front, as part of the 8th Air Army, he participated in the Nikopol-Krivoy Rog offensive operation (January 30 - February 29, 1944) and the liberation of the city of Nikopol; Crimean offensive operation (April 8 - May 12, 1944), including the liberation of the city of Hero of Sevastopol. On the 3rd Baltic Front, as part of the 14th Air Army, he took part in the liberation of Estonia - the Tartu offensive operation (from August 18 to September 6, 1944) and Latvia - the Riga offensive operation (from September 14 to October 4, 1944) - an integral parts of the Baltic strategic operation. On the 1st Baltic Front, as part of the 3rd Air Army, he participated in supporting the ground forces of the front in offensive battles on the Siauliai direction, defeating the Siauliai enemy group, breaking through to the Baltic Sea, blocking the German North forces on the Kurland Peninsula. On the 2nd Baltic, and from April 4, 1945 - on the Leningrad Front, as part of the 15th Air Army, he participated in the defeat of the enemy's Kurland grouping.

By May 1945, he had made 128 successful combat missions to attack the equipment and manpower of the enemy on an IL-2 aircraft. Destroyed 23 tanks, 8 self-propelled guns, 4 airplanes on airfields, 65 vehicles, 7 ammunition depots, 3 locomotives, 23 freight cars, 4 barges, 17 anti-aircraft and small-caliber anti-aircraft artillery guns, 14 field guns, 1 aircraft was shot down the enemy of the Yu-88 type, conducted 19 air battles with enemy fighters, destroyed and dispersed over two battalions of infantry during the storming of the front edge of the enemy defense.

Feat

The effectiveness of his strikes was repeatedly confirmed by ground troops, for which he received two thanks from the commander of the Southern Front, one from the commander of the 4th Ukrainian Front, and one from the commander of the 2nd Baltic Front. The effectiveness of strikes is also confirmed by control crews and photographs.

On July 31, 1943, as part of Group 6, the Il-2 flew to attack the tanks of the Dead Head tank group in the area of ​​Olkhovchik Gully, where according to intelligence data there were up to 40 tanks with the aim of breaking through our defenses. When approaching the front line, the group was attacked by 4 Me-109 fighters. The attackers closed their battle formation and, cutting off enemy fighters with cannon and machine gun fire, made their way to the target. Maneuvering in the zone of continuous anti-aircraft fire , the pilots attacked the bomb load on the tanks. The assault lasted for 15 minutes, 4 calls were made. Personally com. Baranenko direct hit bombs PTAB burned 2 tanks. On the approach to the goal, the group met a powerful anti-aircraft fire "Erlikonov." Tov. Baranenko, having broken through anti-aircraft fire, with a dive with a cannon-machine-gun fire, lit up one U-52 aircraft. After moving away from the goal of Comrade. 12.4.1944, in a group of 12 IL-2 flew to attack the destructive airfield at Cape Chersonese. Tov. Baranenko was assigned the task of destroying anti-aircraft points on the airfield. The attackers had a cover - 8 fighters LaGG-3. However, enemy fighters still approaching the front line tied them up. The group went to the target without cover, and the target was met with strong anti-aircraft fire. Tov. Baranenko managed in one run to produce 3-4 attacks. Neglecting danger, he ensured the work of other crews. Departing from the target, he lit the Yu-87 bomber with a tag. In this sortie, 4 anti-aircraft guns suppressed fire, 1 bomber was destroyed, and up to 20 soldiers and officers were shot.

On 15/04/1944, a group of 6 IL-2 (deputy leader - comrade Baranenko) flew out to strike at the North Bay of Sevastopol, where the main warehouses with food and ammunition were located. When approaching the target, the group was met with concentrated anti-aircraft artillery fire of all calibers. The lead aircraft was shot down and went into its territory. Vigorously and skillfully maneuvering in the fire zone, Comrade. Baranenko assumed command of the group. Controlling the group on the radio, he made his way to the target and, from the first call, blasted a warehouse with ammunition with a direct hit. In exceptionally difficult conditions, dragging the other crews along, he made three passes on the target. The group destroyed 3 ammunition depots and two warehouses. After completing the task Comrade. Baranenko led the group to the airfield without loss.

17.4.1944 Comrade. Baranenko in the group of 12 IL-2 flew to attack the fighter airfield at Dzhankoy station. By saturation with anti-aircraft artillery, it was one of the most powerful areas in the Crimea. Only selfless courage and masterly skill helped Comrade. Baranenko to get to the target and with an aiming series of bombs to cover the parking of the enemy aircraft. In this flight, he destroyed 2 aircraft - FV-190 and Me-109. On 19.4.1944, as part of Group 6, the Il-2 flew out, having a goal - Cossack Bay, where, according to intelligence data, there were 34 barges with the enemy troops evacuated from Sevastopol. 9/27/1944 in bad weather conditions Comrade. Baranenko flew for reconnaissance by force to the rear of the enemy, in the area of ​​the highway Sigulda - Riga. In the course of the flight, the intelligence was transmitted to the airfield radio. During the overflight of the front line, a direct hit by the Oerlikon from the left plane was torn out 1.5 m of the skin, the air system was put out of operation, the chassis was damaged. Baranenko flew into the rear of the enemy for 30 km at a convoy, fired a motorcade, destroying 3 vehicles, and, bringing valuable intelligence, returned to his airfield. 12/12/1944 flew the leader of the group 8 IL-2 to strike at the leading edge of the enemy defense in the area of ​​Pompali. At the target group attacked 12 FV-190. Baranenko, controlling the group on the radio, batted his battle formation. The stormtroopers met the Fokkers with concentrated fire. As a result of the air combat, one pilot and 3 air arrows shot down one PV-190 one by one. The group had no losses.
