Biography

Alexey Balyaev was born on August 15, 1923 in the village of Penzyatka (now in the Lambirsky district , Mordovia ) into a peasant family. After graduating from elementary school, he worked in the Kalinin region , at the Volgostroy enterprise. In November 1941 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since December 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He was a shooter of the 78th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 25th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Army of the South-Western Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [3] .

On the night of September 25-26, 1943, as part of a group, the Red Army soldier Balyaev crossed the Dnieper under enemy fire north of the village of Voiskovoye, Solonyansky District, Dnipropetrovsk Region, and fixed himself on the bridgehead . The German forces launched five counterattacks, but all of them ended unsuccessfully. In battles, the group destroyed about a platoon of German soldiers and officers [3] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 19, 1944, Red Army soldier Alexei Balyaev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [3] .

In 1946, Balyaev was demobilized. He lived in the city of Noginsk, Moscow Region . He died on September 25, 1983 [3] .
