Club History

In 2001, the Razgrad 2000 club was created in Razgrad, which in 2010 was renamed Ludogorets. 2010 was a turning point in the history of the club; it was acquired by the Bulgarian businessman Kiril Domuschiev, who set the club an ambitious task, to enter the top division of Bulgarian football for the first time in its history.

To accomplish this task, the club acquired many stars of Bulgarian football, as a result, over two seasons, the club went the distance from group “B” (third division) to group “A”, and in the 2011/12 season made its debut in the top division of Bulgaria, and in May 2012 won the country cup. Having defeated the Sofia CSKA in the last match of the 2011/12 season with a score of 1: 0, Ludogorets won the championship of Bulgaria for the first time in history. In the 2012/13 season, the team again became the champion of Bulgaria. In the same season, Ludogorets made it to the Champions League playoffs [3] in the European arena, but failed to beat Swiss Basel there. Departure at this stage of the tournament allowed the club to get into the group stage of the Europa League [4] .

In the 2014/2015 season, Ludogorets entered the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, defeating Steaua from Romania [5] . The match was marked by the fact that due to the removal of the goalkeeper in the 119th minute the field player Cosmin Mozi got in the goal before the penalty shoot-out (Ludogorets didn’t have any replacements), who became the hero of the match, having beaten two penalty kicks (the first time in history field player who put in the goal, managed to win the penalty shootout).

In the 2015/2016 season, the team again became the champion of Bulgaria and, thanks to the successful stage of the playoffs, again entered the group stage of the UEFA Champions League . In the UEFA Europa League 2016/2017 reached the 1/16 finals.
