Gori and Athenian Diocese ( Georgian გორისა და გორის ეპარქია ) - Diocese of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the territory of the Gori Municipality .
History
July 30 (July 12), 1811, after the creation of the Georgian Exarchate , the Gori Vicariate of the Kartaly and Kakheti Diocese was created [1] .
The Gori bishops lived mainly in Tiflis and were assistants to the exarch of Georgia in the administration of the Kartaly and Kakheti dioceses. At the beginning of the 20th century, Gori vicars dealt with issues of spiritual enlightenment [1] .
Gori Vicariate ceased to exist as a result of the reorganization of the diocesan structure of the Georgian Church after it proclaimed autocephaly in March 1917 [1] .
On October 11, 2013, an independent Gori and Aten diocese was allocated from Samtavis [2] .
