Meshari ( Alb. Meshari ) - the name of the first printed book in the Albanian language . Currently exists in a single copy.
Content
History
The book was supposedly published in Venice in 1555 by the Catholic bishop Gön Buzuku . Meshari was discovered in Skopje in 1740, after some time information about her was lost. In 1910, a copy of the book was discovered by the Catholic Bishop Luzi Skiroi . In 1930, a photocopy of the book was made, and in 1968 the book was published with the comments of scientists.
Currently, the original book is in the Vatican Library . The Vatican copy does not contain the title of the book and the first 16 pages.
Description
The book is a translation into the Albanian language of the main parts of the Catholic liturgy, therefore the Albanian name of the book comes from the Latin name of the service book Missale . The book also contains a list of major Catholic holidays, prayers, litany of saints, Bible passages and the Trident catechism . The volume of the book is 188 pages, each of which is divided into two columns.
The book is written in Latin in the northern (Gegsky) dialect of the Albanian language using the modified Cyrillic letter Ћ [1] .
