Biography
Julius Vincenz von Krombholz was born on December 19, 1782 in the city of Oberpolitz in the Holy Roman Empire (now - Gornji Police , Czech Republic ). In 1803 he entered the Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague . From 1811 to 1814 he worked as a prospector at the Anatomical Institute. In 1814 he was awarded a doctorate , and he also became a professor of theoretical surgery. In 1820, Krombholz was appointed professor of pathology and medicine at Charles University. From 1825 to 1836 Krombholz worked at the Prague Medical School. During the cholera epidemic of 1831, he was the director of several hospitals. In the same year, Krombholz was appointed rector of Charles University. Then Julius Vincenz became interested in mycology. His work Naturgetreue Abbildungen und Beschreibungen der Schwämme , published since 1831, was the first atlas describing the mushrooms of modern Czech Republic. Julius von Krombholz died on November 2 (according to other sources - November 1 ), 1843 in Prague. The last three volumes of the Atlas were published by Johann Baptista Sobel (1821-1865) after the death of Krombholtz.
