The station is local, not quite ordinary. The difference from the standard local station is that it is two-level. The upper level is used by trains following to the Bronx , the lower level is used by trains towards Lower Manhattan . At each level there is one side platform and two paths, one of which is followed by expresses A and C. The platforms are located one below the other, on the west side of the tracks. Express trains use the eastern route. South of the station, the standard track configuration is being restored. Both platforms are decorated in blue tones, they have mosaics with the name of the station. The name of the station is also located on the columns in the form of a white inscription on a black plate. Lifts are not equipped.
The station has two exits, coming only from the upper platform. To access the lower one there are stairs directly from the upper level platform - there is no direct exit from the lower level to the city. Exits lead to 72nd (from the north end of the platform) and 70th streets (from the south end). Exit to 72nd street is the main one and leads to all corners of the intersection. The turnstile hall of the second (on 70th street) is represented by two full-height turnstiles and leads to only one of the corners of the intersection. Near the station is Central Park , access to which is from both exits. There used to be access to 71st Street, but now it is not functioning.
The exit to 72nd Street is located near the wall of the Dakota building, in the gate of which John Lennon was killed in 1980.
