Zhivoin Pavlovich was born in 1933 in Šabac, a small town in the west of Serbia. Since the early 1950s, has published articles on the art of cinema in Belgrade newspapers. He graduated from the University of the Arts in Belgrade . His first notable work is one of the short films (“Living Water”) in the cinema almanac “ Drops, Water, Warriors ”, which was awarded with a special prize from the jury of the Pula Film Festival. Later he won the competition three times more: “Silver Arena” for the film “The Awakening of Rats ” (1967, also “ Silver Bear ” at the Berlin Film Festival ); Golden Arena for the film When I Will Be Dead and White (1968); "Golden Arena" for the screenplay for the film "Body Smell" (1983).

Since the early 1960s, he has been actively engaged in literary activities: publishes collections of short stories, novels. Published more than 30 books.

His best films, expressing the author’s critical position on the realities of socialist Yugoslavia, coincided with the time of release (1969) with the beginning of the persecutions against the directors of the Yugoslav black wave . Zhivoin Pavlovich and his work were repeatedly subjected to sharp critical attacks from the official press during the period of Titoism [4] . In modern Serbia, he is called “a great artist, author and keeper of the great Serbian written word” [5] .
