Biography
Ivan Eklind worked as a referee at the championship matches in Sweden . He became an international arbiter in 1931. The debut for him was a friendly match between the national teams of Norway and Germany in June of the same year. During his career, he judged 147 meetings, 30 of them - at the level of teams. These were friendly matches, Scandinavian championship games and world championships.
1934 World Championships
In 1934, he was assigned to service the matches of the World Cup in Italy . Among them were two fights with the participation of the home team: the semi-final and final. In the semifinal meeting, Enrique Guaita scored the decisive goal after a number of violations not recorded by the arbitrator [2] .
The work of Eklind during the final match of the Italians with the Czechoslovakia was also criticized. It was reported that before the start of the meeting, the Swedish referee received detailed instructions personally from Benito Mussolini [3] , with the result that the referee ignored many violations of the rules by the Italians during the match. Many participants of the match, in particular, the best goalkeeper of the tournament, Frantisek Planichka and the best scorer of the championship Oldrich Needly, noted that the refereeing of the final match was not impartial [4] .
1938 World Championships
At the World Championships in 1938, his role was not so noticeable, but one of the matches he served in the tournament became known for a rare result and a huge number of goals scored: in Strasbourg on the Meno Stadium field, the Brazilians were able to beat the Poles (6: 5) in extra time .
In another match with Eklinda (replay, appointed for the teams that achieved a draw in the first meeting), the Germans won with confidence at the first half and unexpectedly missed four goals from the Swiss and lost [5] .
Further career
Eclind continued to serve international matches during and after World War II .
He also took part in the World Championships in 1950 , but only in one match.
Judging career completed in 1951.
