Foundation History
It was founded according to the decision of the Government of Israel within the framework of a coalition agreement providing for the creation of six settlements during the cadence of the second government of National Unity under the leadership of Yitzhak Shamir. The order to create the settlement was signed by Minister of Defense Yitzhak Rabin . According to legend, there was heavy rain on the day the settlement was set up, and the tractor carrying the first trailer of the settlement got stuck on the road, not reaching 2 kilometers to the intended place. So, Talmon was founded not where it was planned, but on a neighboring hill. At the originally planned location, three years later, the settlement of Neriya was created [3] .
Title History
Named after the Levitical family - the guardians of the gates of the Temple, mentioned in the book of Nehemiah:
Often you can hear about Talmon-Alef, Talmon-Bet, etc. The reason is that before, when unique names had not yet been fixed for the surrounding villages, they were all called “Talmon + Hebrew alphabet letter corresponding to the serial number.” So Talmon-Alef was actually Talmon, Talmon-Bet - Neria (aka Talmon-Zafon - North), Talmon-Gimel - Neria - the area of constant development, Talmon-Dalet - Neve Talmon, Talmon-hey - Khoresh-Yaaron , Talmon Vav - Horash . When the new district of Neriya - Zayt -Raanan was founded, it was decided not to call it Talmon Zayin and switch to unique names for all these villages.
Geography
The settlement is located at an altitude of 530-650 meters above sea level. In fine weather, from Talmon you can see the entire coastal plain of Israel from Hadera to Ashkelon .
The settlement is divided into two districts - actually Talmon and the newer Neve Talmon.
The settlement is part of the Talmon-Dolev settlement block, which includes Talmon, Dolev , Neria, Nakhliel , Horashu and Khoresh-Yaron.
Population
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel , the population at the beginning of 2018 was 4,058 people [4] .

The action of the novel "Blinds" by the Israeli writer and Talmon resident Emily Amrusi takes place in the village of Elrom, the prototype for which is Talmon. The choice of the name Elrom is as follows: as Elrom in the novel is confused with the more famous kibbutz El Rom, Talmon is also often confused with the town of Tel Mond .
