Biography
The prince was born in Anderlecht on August 20, 2003 . He was the second child and first son of the Crown Prince of Belgium, Philip, Duke of Brabant and his wife Matilda , nee d'Udec d'Acos. His godmothers were Baroness Maria Cristina von Freiberg and his maternal uncle Count Carl Henri de d'Udekém d'Acos . He was given four names:
- Gabriel is a traditional name in the Belgian royal house.
- Baudouin - in honor of his cousin King Baudouin I.
- Karl - in honor of the godfather Carl Henri de d`Udekem d`Akoz.
- Mary - in honor of the Virgin Mary .
Twelve years before his birth, a new law of succession to the throne was passed in Belgium, according to which he takes the position of the birthright. Thus, his sister Elizabeth ranks first in the inheritance of the throne of Belgium. In addition to his older sister Elizabeth, Prince Gabriel has a younger brother, Emmanuel and sister, Eleanor .
Gabriel's father comes from the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty . This dynasty tied itself with family ties to such European houses as Orleans , Bavarian Wittelsbachs , Swedish Bernadottes , Austrian Habsburgs . His mother is Matilda , nee Matilda Maria Cristina Gislen d'Udekem d'Akoz , daughter of Count Patrick Henri d'Udekem d'Akoz and Polish noblewoman Countess Anna Komorowska . Through his grandmother, Anna, the prince is related by well-known Polish families such as the Radziwills , Czartoryski , Zamoyski , Tyszkiewicz , the royal dynasty of Lithuania, the Jagiellons, and many Russian noble families.
