Sextol as a sequence of two trioli
Sextol ( German Sextole from Latin sextus - “sixth”) is a group of six consecutive sounds of the same duration , normally exceeding the number of parts consisting in a note of known duration, but not exceeding the duration of this note; for example, during the duration of a whole note, not four, but six quarters are played, during a half - not four, but six-eighths, during a quarter - six sixteenths, during the eighth - six thirty-second, etc. Depending on the characteristics of the musical phrases or performance features, sextol can be interpreted as a sequence of two trioli, as well as a triol with the division of notes into two parts .
Above such a group of notes, the number 6 is sometimes placed with a bracket.
