For his bravery and heroism, he was promoted to brigadier, and in 1765 he was appointed commander of the Izyum hussar regiment being formed . With the beginning of the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774, the Izyum regiment joined the army of Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky and immediately attracted attention. The commander, after reviewing the troops in October 1768, praised and noted the regiment of Zorich in a report to the military board:

"About the quality of the local regiments ... I can report to the Military Collegium that the Izyum hussar has primacy over all cavalry here, in which people are directly taught the service, horses are good, turning off only a few of the former Cossacks."

In 1771, Zorich was given the rank of Major General , and on August 3, 1771, the commander of the Izyum regiment was awarded the Order of Saint George of the III degree:

"for the attack on June 29, 1771, and the expulsion of the enemy cavalry that had departed from the retreatment of the former cavalry cavalry and the expulsion of the enemy from the retransmission."

Not having direct heirs, he adopted his eldest great-great-nephew, Semyon Neranchich, to whom he gave his last name and determined him for military service. In the future, Simon Gavrilovich Zorich became one of the favorites of Empress Catherine II .
