History
The first written references date back to 1518. Since the 1530s, the city has been an important center of the region’s mining industry. By the end of the 16th century, about 2,000 people lived here. In 1898 it was connected by rail. In 1930, the city had a population of 2,341, mostly Germans.
Geography
The area is 5.62 km². Located in the foothills of the Ore Mountains , at an altitude of 902 m above sea level [2] .
