Stephen Michael James Ovett (October 9, 1955, Brighton , England ) is a British middle distance runner . Olympic champion in 1980 at a distance of 800 meters and a silver medalist in the run at 1,500 meters. 1978 European champion in 1,500 meters - 3.35.59. Silver medalist of the European Championships 1974 (1.45.77) and 1978 (1.44.09) in 800 meters. Former world record holder at a distance of 1,500 meters and in the run for 1 mile .

He participated in the 1976 Olympic Games at distances of 800 and 1500 meters, but did not achieve serious success. At the 1983 World Cup, he took 4th place in the 1,500m race. He took part in the Olympics in Los Angeles , which also did not achieve any significant success. Currently holds the UK 2-mile record.
