Biography
Yuri Belikov was born on June 15, 1958 in the city of Chusovoy, Perm Region, in a family of employees.
His first poems were published in 1974 in the factory print run of Metallurg.
1970s: Perm University
In 1975 he graduated from high school number 1, entered the philological faculty of Perm University . Then, as a 17-year-old boy, he first met in Moscow with the poet Andrei Voznesensky (later the relationship grew into friendship). While studying at the university, he was a student editor of the faculty wall newspaper “Gorkovets”, where he published prose and poems of a social orientation not only by philologists, but also by representatives of other faculties, as well as people not related to the state university .
He founded the poem, “vocal” (according to the VIA principle) group “Vremiri”, which, in addition to Yuri Belikov (percussion), included faculty poets Yuri Aslanyan (solo verses), Alexander Popov (bass verses) and Alexey Ivanov-Shirinkin ( rhythm verses). He graduated from the Faculty of Philology in 1980 (in the same year as Yu, Aslanyan [1] ).
1980s: Children of Strontium and Politburo
He worked in the newspapers Chusovskaya Rabochiy (1980-1981, 1983-1986), Young Guard (1981, 1987, 1988-1992), the Perm Komsomol regional committee as head of the cultural and mass work sector (1981-1982), and in the agitation train The Central Committee of the Komsomol "Leninsky Komsomol" - the main methodologist for working with art groups of the Non-chernozem zone of the RSFSR (1982-1983), in the factory production run "Metallurg" (1987-1988).
In 1985 he became a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR .
As a correspondent for the Perm newspaper “ Young Guard ”, he takes part in the expedition of ufologist Emil Bachurin to the anomalous zone near the village of Molebka, Kishertsky District, Perm Region .
In many ways, Belikov’s efforts in the Young Guard created the literary supplement “Children of Strontium” ( 1989 - 1992 ), which published prominent representatives of not only the Perm underground ( Vladislav Drozhashchikh , Yuri Aslanyan , Nina Gorlanova , Vladimir Sarapulov, Yuri Vlasenko, Marina Krasheninnikova ), but also of Yekaterinburg, Barnaul, Moscow.
At the same time, the Children of Strontium created the poetic group Politburo, which stands for the Perm Association of Literary Bureaucrats. It included Belikov himself ("Secretary General), Vladislav Drozhashchikh (" Minister for Ideology and Agriculture ", Yuri Aslanyan (" Minister of the Interior ") and Anatoly Subbotin (" candidate for the Politburo).
In 1989, in Biysk ( Altai ), where the authors of the domestic literary underground arrived at the First All-Union Festival of Poetry Arts “Blooming Staff”, members of the Perm Politburo became its laureates, and Yuri Belikov was awarded the Grand Prix and the title of “Mahatma Russian poets. "
In 1986-1987, in addition to the higher philological, Y. Belikov received another education, graduating from the journalism department of the Higher Komsomol School (VKSH) under the Central Committee of the Komsomol.
In 1988 and 1990, the first two books of Yuri Belikov saw the light: “The Pulse of the Bird” - in the publishing house “Sovremennik” and “Sorry, Leonardo!” - in the Perm book publishing house. Over the next 17 years, not a single book was published, which became a psychological projection of the poet’s disappointment in the consequences of the August events in which he was directly involved as a defender of the White House [1] .
1990s - early 2000s: The Monarch and the Wild Animals
In the early 1990s, his poems were published by the magazines "Youth" , "Banner" , "Spark" . In 1991, he was admitted to the Union of Russian Writers on the oral recommendation of Andrei Voznesensky and three written criticisms of Valentin Kurbatov and the poets Kirill Kovalzhi and Olga Yermolaeva . In those same years, Belikov, as a sobor correspondent for the Urals and Siberia, was a member of the editorial board of the journal "Youth" (1992-1995), where he created the rubric "Russian Province". Then he worked as a correspondent for the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda in the Perm Region (1995-1998), Tribunes (since 1998), and special correspondent for the newspaper Trud . In “Tribune” and “Labor” he conducts the rubric he founded: “The shelter of unknown poets.” In the future, works as a columnist for the newspaper "Star" [2] .
In the late 1990s he created a new - the third in a row - literary group "Monarch", which, in addition to Belikov ("Heir") includes Perm poets Valery Abankin ("Okolnichy"), Alexander Kuzmin ("Sokolnichy"), Elena Medvedeva (" Boyarynya ”), Dmitry Bannikov (“ Stolnik ”), Anatoly Subbotin (“ Spalnik ”) and Vasily Tomilov (“ Kravchiy). The group performs at various city venues, is published in the metropolitan Yunost, Perm’s Third Perm anthology and publishes a general collection "Monarch. Seven Impostors" (Perm, publishing house "PRIPIT", 1999) with a preface by the editor-in-chief of the Youth magazine, Victor Lipatov.
Suspending his own access to the reader, Yuri Belikov publishes others as a member of the jury of the youth Ilya Prize (literary prize in memory of Ilya Tyurin ) and compiler of the books of her first laureates. Developing this initiative, Belikov becomes the “leader of the wild Russians” - “poets of the land of existence” [3] . The works of forty authors in the geographic range from Norilsk to Stavropol were included in his book “Shelter of Unknown Poets (Dikorossy)” [4] , which was published in 2002 in the Moscow publishing house Grail [2] . For this project, Yuri Belikov was awarded the prize of the Union of Journalists of Russia.
In 2002, Yuri Belikov was admitted to the Russian PEN Center.
After 2005: “The End of Your Own Booklessness”
Since 2005, Yuri Belikov has been trying his hand at prose: he writes the novels “Izba-chariot” and “Toys of an Adult Man”. The first is about meetings with a 90-year-old taiga hermit in the north of the Perm Territory and an expeditionary search (in which Yuri himself took part) of the “Bells of the Romanov Dynasty”, which sank there in 1913. The second is a unique collection of Belikov muses. The izba-chariot was published in the 1-2 issue of 2007 in the literary and art magazine Day and Night . The second story is published in the 11-12th issue of the same publication. The stories were well received by critics [5] [6] .
In 2005, in Velikiye Luki, Belikov was awarded the Velimir Order of the Cross “Poet of the Poet” (an award established in honor of the 120th birthday of Velimir Khlebnikov ) for “confirming the ideals of great Russian literature” [7] .
According to the poet, this was the end of the “period of his own booklessness”.
In 2007, the third edition of Yu. Belikov’s book Not That, which attracted the attention of readers and the professional community, was published at the Moscow publishing house West Consulting. The book was awarded the literary prize named after P.P. Bazhov and was highly appreciated by Andrei Voznesensky :
The talent of Yuri Belikov is the talent of a shaman, caster and prophet. Hitting the tambourine of a verse, it calls with the sounds of the spirits of earth and sky, and its word is filled with the flashes of the northern lights, plucking from the depths of its gift of foresight. He writes prediction verses that come true over time. Once Yura came to me on Kotelnicheskaya embankment with a 17-year-old boy, and I remembered him like that - a young rebel in a red shirt. Today she speaks to us “Not such” - an early sage who has seen and experienced a lot. No wonder once in the Altai poets called him “Mahatma” [8] .
Since 2009, Yuri Belikov has been the correspondent of Literary Newspaper , on the pages of which he continued the column “Dikorossy”.
In 2013 (the year of the poet’s 55th anniversary) his fourth book of poems, “I Will Come Out of the Cloud,” named after the line of the poem about which Yevgeny Yevtushenko speaks, was published. She was awarded two prestigious awards - the Alexey Reshetov Prize in Perm and the All-Russian nationwide prize “For Fidelity to the Word and the Fatherland” named after Anton Delvig , established by the editorial board of the Literary Newspaper . Both “Not That” and “I Will Come Out of the Cloud Soon” were well received by critics (see, for example, [9] [10] ).
His poems are published in the domestic anthologies Samizdat Century, Contemporary Literature of the Peoples of Russia, Ice and Fire, Prayers of Russian Poets, A Word about Mother, Genres and Stanzas of Contemporary Russian Poetry, Genius Poems, "45: Parallel Reality", in the "Anthology of Russian Lyricism. XX century. " In 2007, Yu. Belikov became a member of the editorial board of the magazines Day and Night and Children of Ra [11] .
A variety of magazines publish poems and essays by Yuri Belikov: Kievan Rus ( Ukraine ), Our Contemporary , Foreign Notes [3] ( Germany ), Jerusalem Journal ( Israel ), Poet Magazine by Konstantin Kedrov [4 ] , "Academy of Poetry" Valentina Ustinova [5] and others.
Member of the Vth and VIth International Congresses “Russian Literature in the World Cultural Context” (2014, 2015), as well as the IVth St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum (2015).
In 2015, he was included in the list of “One Hundred Poets of Russian Abroad” according to the magazine “ Day and Night ” [12] .
Currently lives in Perm .
Perception of Creativity
The most polar critics have addressed the works of Yu. Belikov at different times - “from Vladimir Bondarenko from Literature Day to Evgeny Minin from Literary Jerusalem, from Novosibirsk Eurasian Vladimir Yarantsev to Swede of the Turkmen spill Ak Velsapar. Heinrich Sapgir called Yuri Belikov “light butterfly” and “weighty poet”. Georgy Gachev compared "with the explosion and breakthrough of the Spirit through the viscosity of entropy." Olga Ermolaeva - with the “voice of a clean, strong and beautiful province” ” [13] .
The poet and critic Yevgeny Minin, who lives in Jerusalem , describes the main vector of Belikov's work in this way:
... longing for the people of the time of Pugachev and Stenka Razin , who once rose against the oligarchs of those far centuries, letting red roosters in their palace-towers, in the present - cottages-villas. I would say this is a textual motive for many of Yuri’s poems. And is it not a letter from the past that the cover from the malachite box from the Monologue of the Ural Stone Cutter becomes? And does not Belikov’s book itself, sent into the distance to descendants, turn into a semblance of a malachite cover? These are not just poems. This is a cipher of micro-painting, which - again - to whom it is READ TO ... [14]
On the pages of the Ural magazine, the Omsk poetess and critic Veronika Schellenberg gives the following characterization of the poet’s work:
What does Belikov’s intonation “mold” from? Here, there is a slight irony, just waltzing with a word (but by no means flirting!), And an organic combination of different language strata - from high, “tablet” to square ones. And all this pulsates, lives, moves, breathes so much that it is impossible to enter the same poem twice - somewhere an unexpected perspective of the image will sparkle, like in a piece of mother of pearl in the light. Boyish mischief, as in "Dance with Aunts", and the stunning piercing "Outside the Fence" (in memory of Victor Astafiev) ... But this is also due to the remarkable intonation of Yuri Belikov, which through irony is about the deep, and about the deep - not without everyday trifles. Real people live in the world of his book - there is their breathing, coughing and laughing, the sound of boots. People with all their high and momentary impulses, blows of an oar and an ax. Rivers and voices flow there, Basho’s birds and hat fly, there “is given a damned gift, like a hole in the atmosphere”, Perm, Cairo, Florence, Moscow are adjacent to bear corners ... [15]
Evgeny Yevtushenko , who included Belikov’s poems in the anthology “A poet in Russia is more than a poet (Ten Centuries of Russian Poetry),” writes in Novye Izvestia :
A rare poet entered poetry with such, I would say, root certainty, like Yuri Belikov, being an ardent soil worker and at the same time an avant-garde artist who grew up on folklore soaked up since childhood ... And how miraculously Belikov retained in his memory the once boyish, but still the tireless feet have a unique feeling of tickling their minnows, especially when you go from a swift into an unexpectedly gentle backwater ... But the feeling of a native land, unlike many soil workers, does not close with Belikov in Russia alone, but powerfully and naturally merges with a feeling m of the same kindred relationship with the vast expanses of the Earth and sky, with the cosmos common to all mankind. [16] .
Moscow poet and critic Alexander Karpenko in Literary News notes:
Belikov’s poetry has a very low anti-rating. - What does it mean? Just that his style is not alien to the representative of different directions. Brodsky, Kedrov, and Prokhanov could write about him positively ... Do you know what makes Belikov, the inventor, a great Russian poet? The ability not only to fantasize, but also to take very high notes without falsetto ... when a poet, whose compositional and stylistic talents we admire, also knows how to “knock out” a tear from a gullible reader, this is, without a doubt, a great Russian poet. [17]
The poet of the sixties and critic Pyotr Wegin in the preface to the publication of the early poems of Yu. Belikov in the journal Don notes:
There are poets who are gaining momentum gradually and only give strong light over the years. Yuri Belikov belongs to another, less common category of poets, in him by nature there is a strong light, from birth. Sometimes it is brighter than necessary, and shines even on bright days. But you can’t turn it off - the light of youth, the light of art. Time should still pass, experience will appear, so that its light illuminates only the necessary, the most important thing. Not only time can help this, but also publications that Belikov has long deserved. Each printed speech of the poet is a refinement of coordinates, the ability to correctly use their luminosity.
He is bright and generous - in words, in colors. The twists and turns in his poems are cool, as in life. This is good, it indicates ownership of the world. Belikov’s poems are driven by Love and the thirst for Justice - on the scale of Humanity, no less. So it should be with a real poet, because Mankind is his own family, she raised him, taught the best that she has, opened the light in him. And only on this basis, Mankind has the right to expect from the poet that he will highlight something new, necessary for everyone in order to more clearly see the new sharp turn of life. [18]
