Thallium triiodide is a binary inorganic compound, a salt of a metal of thallium and hydroiodic acid with the formula TlI ₃ , black-brown crystals, hardly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and ether .

Physical Properties

Thallium triiodide forms black-brown crystals of rhombic syngony , space group P nma , cell parameters a = 1.0599 nm, b = 0.6419 nm, c = 0.9436 nm, Z = 4 ^[1] .

Sparingly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and ether .

Chemical Properties

There is an equilibrium between thallium (III) iodide and thallium (I) polyiodide :
