It lives in rivers and lakes from the Urals in the west to Yana with its tributary Adycha in the east. It is found in the entire Amur basin, including the Sungari, Ussuri and Lake. Hanka. Known in the coastal rivers flowing into the Gulf of Peter the Great, and on Sakhalin (the Tym and Poronai rivers, Lake Nevskoye). Distributed also by rivers on the peninsula of Korea.
The body of the forceps is strongly compressed laterally, especially in the head area. Small river fish, the largest specimens of plucking are rarely more than 13 cm long. The color is variegated, but not bright, the main tone is gray, light yellow or brown, on which small dark spots are scattered, the largest of which are located in longitudinal rows. It feeds on small invertebrates. Shchipovka prefers sandy-clay soil , which is easily buried. Caviar in a yellow pluck.
