Biography
In 1353, his older brother Carl , who became king of Navarre in 1349, went to war in France, and Louis remained in Navarre as vice-king. In 1356, the king made him lieutenant general of Navarra, and he retained this post until 1364. In 1360 he received the county of Beaumont-le-Roger from his brother Charles the Evil, which was returned to the house of Evreux by agreement in Calais.
In 1358, Louis secretly married Maria de Lizarazu, daughter of the barbaric stalmeister Martinez de Lizarazu; a few years later, this marriage was annulled by the Navarran king. After the death of his brother, Count de Longville, he went to Normandy as lieutenant of Charles the Evil to take part in his brother's war with the French. Gathering 12 hundred mercenaries, he invaded Bourbonnais and Auvergne in 1364 and stayed there for more than a year, taking ransom from the cities, as well as capturing and setting fire to several castles. After Charles the Evil signed peace with the king of France, Louis left for Italy.
In 1366, Louis married John , Duchess of Durazzo , the marriage was childless. In 1367, Durazzo was taken by the Albanians, led by Karl Topia . To regain their possession, Louis and John turned to relatives for help. In 1372, the Navarre King Charles II provided a group of mercenaries known as the Navarre Company , and the French King Charles V gave 50 thousand ducats on the security of the county of Beaumont-le-Roger. Having carefully prepared, and having received in 1375 from Karl the Evil, 20 thousand livres, allocated by decree of the Cortes of Navarra, as well as new detachments from Navarra , the troops of Louis landed in the Balkans in early summer 1376 and took Durazzo. However, at the end of that year, Louis died, and the troops left without a tenant went to the other masters.
