Youth and Education
Richard Daley is the fourth of seven children of and Eleanor Daley, former mayor and first lady of Chicago. Coming from , a historic suburb where Irish-born Americans settled, Richard Daley studied at Providence College and then at De Paul University , in which he received a doctorate in law in 1964.
Socio-political activities
From 1972 to 1980, he worked as a senator in Illinois. In 1981–1989, Daly served as a prosecutor for Cook County .
From 1989 to 2011, Daly was elected mayor of the city of Chicago, having worked in this position for a total of six terms. As mayor, Daly resolved issues of resolving same-sex marriages, settled the carrying of weapons.
April 25, 2005 was selected by Time magazine as the best of the five mayors of major cities in the United States; the magazine characterized him as a politician with an "imperial" style and power [1] .
Daly has rallied the cities and his business community for the implementation of an important step, an application for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Chicago. However, on October 2, 2009, at the ceremony for the selection of the Olympic capital in Copenhagen, Chicago was not approved as such.
Current activities
On May 24, 2011, the rector of the University of Chicago announced the appointment of Daley as a leading researcher at the university’s public policy school. Richard Daley was also elected to the board of directors of the Coca-Cola Company .
