Soundtrack
On August 31, 2010, Arrival Records / Scion Music Group released the soundtrack for the first season of the series. The soundtrack consists of 10 songs, including Bob Dylan 's Forever Young Parents screen saver, as well as international themes and When We Were Young by Lucy Schwartz. The soundtrack also includes the song "Forever Young" performed by John Doe and Lucy Schwartz.
Jack McMahon of Jack's Mannequin said on the People and Things album that the song Casting Lines was written after he contacted the producers of the show about a possible screen saver for the series. After recording the song and sending it to the producers, he was told that they appreciated his efforts, but they chose “Forever Young” as the musical theme of the series. The song really appears on Jack's Mannequin's third album, People and Things.
Reception Critics
The series received mostly positive and mixed reviews with an initial score of 61 out of 100 on Metacritic [3] .
Alan Sepinwall wrote that “like a film,“ Parents ”inspired him, but this is not a classic, but an intelligent, warm and informative tragicomedy that in it everyone can see themselves and find something special in it” [4] . At the same time, Entertainment Weekly Ken Tucker wrote: “Parents are no better than American Family , but everything is different here, this is his own creation, created thanks to the clever connections and cautious characteristics of executive producer Jason Katims and his co-authors " [5] .
Sheri Levin of The Vancouver Sun writes: “All the actors play seriously and thoughtfully, even when they joke and end up in comic situations. It is almost as if art imitated life, or life imitated art ” [6] . Already the third season of the show received an enthusiastic review in The New Yorker , where Emily Nussbaum wrote: “This is one of the two great dramas on television, where the other is“ The Good Wife “. ... If the series closes, I will never recover. The show is getting stronger every season ” [7] .
