Description
- Fruit bodies are usually small apothecia of a flat or cup shape, soft, fleshy, hairy pubescent in most species. Many species are painted in bright colors.
- Asukas are club-shaped or cylindrical, small, with thin walls. The spores are small, oblong, in some representatives septic.
- Representatives of the family are saprotrophs growing on dead wood, occasionally on rotting grassy plants.
Anamorphs are known only to a small number of representatives.
