History

The crane was built at the Kiev shipbuilding plant Leninskaya Kuznitsa by order of BMK Planeta Most LLC and was transferred to the customer on August 26, 2009 [1] . The name of the crane reflects the name of the enterprise "Lenin Forge" and the lifting capacity. The crane received the name “Zakhary” in honor of the father of the owner of the contracting company, deputy of Kyiv City Council Valery Moshensky [2] .

The builder and crane operator have stated that of the compact low-draft cranes designed for use in river conditions, this crane is the most powerful. For passage along the shallow river, the crane has significantly reduced draft; for passage under bridges, the height during transportation has been reduced.

The first work for the crane was loading the Terex Demag CC2800-1 crane onto the Roksolana 2 motor ship. The Terex Demag CC2800-1 crane, in turn, was the most powerful lifting tool for the reconstruction of the Olympic NSC in 2010. The work took 12 hours [3] .

Later, in August 2010, the crane was engaged to dismantle the Sarny floating crane [4] .

Since June 2011, the crane has been used for the installation of structures of the Podolsky bridge .

Crash

November 18, 2011, work was carried out near Naberezhno-Rybalskaya Street , at about 11:10 the crane fell [5] . At the time of the accident, the crane had to install the four upper sections of the bridge. The crane team was not affected, five of the eight workers escaped on their own, and three were released by the rescue service of Kiev [6] .

When falling, the crane's arrow fell 200 meters from the Havana bridge , the crossing vibrated, but did not suffer. At that moment there was a traffic jam on the bridge; there was a slight panic [2] [4] . The crane itself was seriously damaged: the right pontoon suffered, on which the arrow of the crane landed, perhaps it was poorly fixed [2] . In addition, the design of the cargo and auxiliary boom was damaged. From consumable fuel tanks spilled a small amount of petroleum products that fell into the Dnieper . To collect them, several days work was carried out to neutralize pollution. The specialists of the Planet-Most company, who concluded that it was necessary to replace the crane boom, [6], left for the place. The authorities of Kiev announced that they will study the issue of installing the remaining structural elements of the bridge, although these elements were not yet ready [7] . Subsequently, plans were announced in accordance with which the crane's arm was supposed to be cut into pieces weighing no more than 15 tons for recycling for scrap. In addition to carrying out repairs, the manufacturer promised to fix the design of the crane in order to prevent a recurrence of the emergency. The start date of the work was set on November 21, but it was not possible to develop the lift on the proposed time, and on November 22 it turned out that the lifting of the crane was postponed for coordination with supervisory organizations [8] .

As a result of the work of the commission, a number of versions of what happened were considered. The cause of the accident was recognized as the wrong actions of the captain of the crane: when working to bring the crane into transport condition, the left pontoon was disconnected which provided the necessary stability [9] . Violation of the operating rules when lowering the boom in the stowed position was named as the main reason - the crane finished its work and had to be towed to the parking lot. To restore the crane to its normal position, the cargo and auxiliary booms had to be cut off. [10] .

After the fall, the crane became additionally known in connection with the twitter account created on its behalf. The first entry in it read: “Well, I fell.” [11] [12]

In early April 2013, a decision was published to send a crane down the Dnieper to the Ocean plant . A few months later the crane was supposed to return to Kiev [10] [13] .

By September 2014, crane repair was completed. He was transported to the Nikolaev Sea Trade Port . The shipowner of the crane said that his return to Kiev is not planned. [fourteen]
