Goritsky region (Goriska regia) ( Slovenian. Goriška regija ) is a statistical region in western Slovenia, on the border with Italy . Located in the historical region of Slovene Primorye . The name of the region comes from the name of the medieval region of Goritsa ( Gorizia ). The largest city in the region is Nova Gorica .

Content
History
Before the First World War , when Slovenia was part of Austria-Hungary , the region was part of the counties of Goritsa and Gradiska , and the city of Gorizia was its capital. During the First World War, the territory was occupied by Italians, becoming part of the Venice-Giulia region . When Mussolini began a sharp italization of the local population. After World War II, the territory of Horishka passed to Yugoslavia.
