Pavlenko, Sergey Vasilievich

Sergei Vasilyevich Pavlenko ( May 5, 1952 , Sumy , Ukrainian SSR , USSR - February 3, 2012 , Moscow ) - Soviet and Russian composer in the field of symphonic and musical chamber genres. A student of Nikolai Sidelnikov and Edison Denisov , who spoke about their influence on his work until the end of his life. Musical Director of the Taganka Theater (1976-1982).

Biography

Born May 5, 1952 in Sumy in Ukraine , raised in Rostov-on-Don .

In 1972-1977 he studied at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky in the composition class of Nikolai Sidelnikov and in the instrumentation class of Edison Denisov .

In 1976, at the age of twenty-four, while still studying at the Moscow Conservatory, he took the post of musical director of the Taganka Theater . He took part in the release of the plays “ Master and Margarita ”, “Crime and Punishment”, “Three Sisters”, “Vladimir Vysotsky” and others. The author of the music for the play “Complaint Book” (by A. P. Chekhov ). He created several performances for the theater, which went on a small stage. In 1982, he left the theater and began composing.

In 1977-1980 he studied at the graduate school of the Moscow State Conservatory.

Composer interests were in the field of symphonic and chamber music genres. He wrote several compositions commissioned by the International Saxophone Ensemble Jean-Marie Londe , the Dutch clarinet quartet Henri Bock , the German ensemble of French horns Westdeutsches Hornen , clarinetists Harri Spaarn ( Netherlands ) and Jacques Merrera ( France ), harpsichord player Petya Kaufmann ( Switzerland ), a brass band Florida , USA ).

In 1988, Pastorale for the quintet of saxophones Pavlenko won the first prize at the International Composers Competition in Paris .

Laureate of several international composing contests.

In 2010, he took part in the YouTube composers competition with the essay “Petersburg Dreams”, among the thirteen participants went to the finals, but did not become a laureate.

He died of cardiac arrest on February 3, 2012 in Moscow. [1] He was buried in Moscow at the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery. [2]
