Oikonim Elvg is of Kalmyk origin and is translated as abundant, abundant; rich [2] .

History

Founded in 1978 in connection with the organization on irrigated lands, a new specialized farm, the vegetable-growing state farm Progress, is being created [3] . In the same year, an elementary school and a kindergarten were opened. In 1982, the school becomes seven years old. In 1987 - the average [4] .

Physical-geographical characteristic

The settlement is located in the west of the Yashkul district , within the Priergeninskaya plain , which is part of the Caspian lowland . The average height above sea level is 21 m [5] . The terrain is flat. To 2.4 km south of the village flows the river Yashkul [6] . Brown alkaline and saline soils, east of the village common meadow salt (semi-hydromorphic) solonetz [7]

By road, the distance to the capital of Kalmykia , Elista, is 57 km, to the district center of Yashkul village - 51 km, to the nearest settlement of Ulan-Erge - 6.4 km [8] .

Climate

The climate is sharply continental , with hot and dry summer and windless with little snow, sometimes with significant cold in winter. According to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification, the type of climate is semi - arid . The average annual air temperature is positive and is + 9.9 ° C, the average temperature of the coldest month of January is 5.4 ° C, the hottest month of July is + 25.2 ° C. National composition

According to the results of the 2002 census, the majority of the population of the village were Kalmyks (75%) [19]

Social Infrastructure

The village has a shop, post office, house of culture and a library. Secondary education residents of the village receive in Elvginsky secondary school, pre-school - in kindergarten "Golden Key". Medical care for the residents is provided by a medical assistant and obstetric point and Yashkul central district hospital located in the village of Yashkul [20] .

The village is electrified and gasified. There are no centralized water supply and drainage systems [20] .
