Career
At the 1952 Olympics in Oslo , he won silver in the 50 km race, losing almost 5 minutes to his teammate Veikko Hakulinen and only 17 seconds ahead of Norwegian Magnar Estenstad . In the remaining races of the Olympic tournament did not participate.
At the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo , he started again only in the 50 km race, and took 4th place in it, losing almost 3 minutes to the Soviet skier Fedor Terentiev in the fight for 3rd place.
During his career, he participated in two world championships , as at the Olympics, starting in them only in 50 km races, but did not win medals, becoming 11th at the 1954 championship and 5th at the 1958 championship .
He won the championships of Finland 1 time, in 1959 in the race for 50 km.
During and after the completion of his sports career, he worked in agriculture.
He died on December 7, 2013 in a nursing home in the city of Mikkeli at the age of 95 years [1] .
